5th Day of Christmas: Salmon Cat Treats
Okay so the cats in our lives should definitely get a little something for Christmas though I do think these treats, if enjoyed by kitty, could be made all year so you don't have to buy treats with artificle things stuffed into them.

I found this recipe over at the Rookie Cookie who actually had them printed up in Family Circle. I used there picture because I don't have them made yet. I do have little kitties outside but they very rarely get treats though I'm seriously considering making these for them or maybe to take down to Grandma's kitties who are adorable and like a select group of people (me being one).

According to the Rookie Cookie, her kitty loved them!

Ingredients
10 oz canned salmon (undrained)
1 egg (beaten)
2 cups whole wheat flour

Mix It Up

  1. Heat oven to 350°. Pulse 10 oz canned salmon (undrained) in a food processor and chop as finely as possible.

  2. In a stand mixer, combine salmon, 1 egg (beaten) and 2 cups whole wheat flour until dough forms. If dough is too dry, add up to ⅓ cup water. If dough is too wet or sticky, add a bit more flour. Dough should be tacky but not sticky.

  3. Roll out dough on a floured surface until about ¼ inch thick. Use a ¾-inch cookie cutter in the shape of your choice to create your treats.

  4. Place treats on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake at 350° for about 20 minutes. When they’re slightly browned and crunchy, they’re done.

  5. Allow to cool before serving.

  6. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.

I like the idea of making them into little fish shapes but to cut down on the work I might just form little balls to cook because after all, they are cat treats and all the cat cares about is how they taste and when you will provide them. And if they are for Christmas then there you go. You've finished the cats present.

FYI: There will be a few more gifts to come for both cats and dogs.

*laughs* If I ever do this for my cats, they would never want to eat their usual food again =D

LOL my kitties wouldn't be then they are outdoor kitties so a treat is exactly that. But then what I like about it most is knowing what is inside of it.

But the house kitties I had years ago would have loved this. If only.
