Books I've Read Since the Fire
I have to admit I haven't been doing a lot of reading. During the fire, it was the farthest thing from my mind. After the fire, I read a little hear and there but mostly not. I'm trying to get back into it and have a lot of Christmas reading lined up. But since then this is what I've read:

Title: Outlander
Series: Outlander
Author: Diana Gabaldon
Pages: 896

Description:
The year is 1945. Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is just back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an “outlander”—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding border clans in the year of Our Lord...1743.

Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of lairds and spies that may threaten her life, and shatter her heart. For here James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, shows her a love so absolute that Claire becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire—and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

Thoughts:
I've shouted it from the mountain tops just how much I love this book and this series and as always it has yet to disappoint. I enjoyed it once again and would recommend it (and do) to anyone. Some might be more inclined to listen to it as it is a long book and sometimes I feel those who can't read it can listen to the tale being woven around them.

I've already started in on the second installment and I'm surprised anew at home much I liked all the bits in the 20th century though the 18th century is just as good.

Title: In Other Worlds
Series: Dark-Hunter, Were-Hunter, The League
Author: Sherrilyn Kenyon
Pages: 304

Description:
Fire and Ice: Livia is a Vistan princess who is to be married to an ambassador from a neighboring galaxy--a brutal man, many years her senior. She knows that the one thing he values in her is her virginity, and in a last-ditch effort to escape the fate her father has decreed for her, she sets out to seduce the first man she can find. Adron Quiakides was once a fierce League assassin. Now he lives in constant pain from wounds suffered years earlier at the hands of a madman. When Livia approaches him in a darkened bar, he willingly falls for her seduction. But when he feels the warmth of her healing touch he knows that he can't let her go. With her in his arms, he is free of pain, both body and soul.

Knightly Dreams: The dashing hero of a novel comes to life.

Dragonswan: Channon (Shannon with C) MacRea has spent years studying the legendary Dragon Tapestry, deciphering Old English symbolism. One evening delectable Sebastian Kattalakis appears -- a dragon slayer trapped between two worlds -- claims to hold the key to solving the tapestry’s mysteries. Channon follows him into a fantastic alternate world of magic, danger, and adventure.

Thoughts:
Overall it was a decent story. I liked the first and the last the most but I think my favorite is The League story of Fire & Ice. I can't wait for this novella to be relevant in the League series... you can see it coming.

Title: Destiny Kills
Series: Myth & Magic
Author: Keri Arthur
Pages: 336

Description:
Desire calls. Danger Lurks. But...
When Destiny McCree wakes up beside a dead man on an Oregon beach, she knows only this: she has to keep moving, keep searching, and keep one step ahead of the forces that have been pursuing her from the heart of Scotland to this isolated spot. Why? The death of her lover has left her alone, with little memory of her past. A glimmering serpent-shaped ring is the one clue she has—and a bargaining chip in a most dangerous game.

Enter Trae Wilson, a master thief with a sexy, knowing grin and a secret agenda of his own. Destiny and Trae both have powers far beyond the human—and both are running for their lives. Together they’re riding a tide of danger, magic, and lust…but with killers stalking their every move, they must use any means necessary, even each other, to survive—until the shocking secret of one woman’s destiny finally unravels.…

Thoughts:
I have to admit I was rather bored with this book. I was listening to it which made me stick it out but it wasn't really very good which surprised me because I love the Riley Jensen series by Arthur. The story seemed to have some potential but it was about land and sea dragons who shifted into people and it was just odd.

Title: Mercy Burns
Series: Myth & Magic
Author: Keri Arthur
Pages: 352
Rating: no titleno titleno titleno titleno title

Description:
Mercy Reynolds is a reporter in the San Francisco Bay area, but she’s also more—and less—than human. Half woman, half air dragon, she’s a “draman”—unable to shift shape but still able to unleash fiery energy. Now something will put her powers to the test.

Mercy’s friend Rainey has enlisted her help to solve her sister’s murder. Then a horrible accident claims Rainey’s life, leaving Mercy only five days to find the killer: If Mercy fails, according to dragon law, Rainey’s soul will be doomed to roam the earth for eternity. But how can Mercy help when she herself is a target? With nowhere else to turn, she must join forces with a sexy stranger—the mysterious man they call “Muerte,” or death itself, who’s as irresistible as he is treacherous. But can even Death keep Mercy alive for long enough to find her answers?

Thoughts:
Typically I love Arthur's paranormal romance. Her Riley Jensen series still makes me want to go back and re-read it. I really wondered about the Myth and Magic series but was a little disappointed by the first novel.

This book really didn't change that either. While, it felt mildly better in story it really didn't stand out and on more than one occasion I found myself not really interested in reading it.

Still for a quick read it is a good one but if you are expecting to be riveted to your seat then you picked up the wrong book.

Thanks for all the recs. *whispers* I've started Outlander like three different times and can never even get to where she shifts time /o\ *sigh* Maybe some day.

Will have to check out some of them.

Admittedly I really struggled with Outlander up to that point, too! :| I almost always skip the first few chapters when re-reading; they're just so slow.

But give it a chance, because after that it gets amazing. :D

YES!

Yes, several people have told me that :/ I will probably give it another go at some point.
Jill aka Jo: Outlander: B/W Jamie & Clairesireesanwar on November 20th, 2015 07:21 pm (UTC)
Maybe a listen then. I love listening to them. When I'm exercising, doing house hold chores or getting ready in the morning. It is awesome. I find it easier to listen than to sit down and read them anymore.

Let me know.

HA HA OMG my experience with audiobooks is they put me right to sleep OR I listen for a bit & then my mind wanders O__O and I have to go back and relisten. *sigh*
Jill aka Josireesanwar on November 20th, 2015 09:06 pm (UTC)
Oh well.

I honestly HATE that I can't listen to audiobooks, I would get so much more reading done if I could :((((

And those stupid Torchwood audio plays would be so much more enjoyable if I could get through them without falling asleep O__O

I've been watching the show...altho I'm behind, does that count?
Jill aka Jo: Happy: Calvin Smilesireesanwar on November 20th, 2015 09:51 pm (UTC)
Yes, that can count. LOL Of course, the books are far better but I understand why people have trouble with them.

I would just keel over if I couldn't listen to books. I enjoy it so much and sometimes I find myself listening instead of doing the task I was supposed to be doing.

Soooo happy to see another Outlander fan. \o/ Those books are so dear to my heart. ♥
Jill aka Josireesanwar on November 20th, 2015 07:19 pm (UTC)
Um yeah. I'm totally obsessed with it. Well whatever. I have the comm outlander_watch which I started shortly after discovering the books and becoming so hooked that everything reminds me of them... seriously.

Have considered restarting Outlander, but with audio books, miss the whole world.
Jill aka Jo: Movie: Pascal upsidedownsireesanwar on November 25th, 2015 11:53 pm (UTC)
I've done it. I didn't realize how much I loved the bits in Dragonfly with Roger and Brianna!
Kaylee Winchester: Outlander The Frasersroguem on November 28th, 2015 10:17 am (UTC)
I wasn't a big fan of Roger and Brianna as a pairing to begin with, but they grew on me. Maybe I'll Like it better the second time around.
Maybe because in the beginning I was just impatient to hear more about Jamie and Claire.
Jill aka Jo: Hug: Stock drawing on fingerssireesanwar on December 2nd, 2015 10:51 pm (UTC)
I don't remember being a big fan either and this time around I'm just totally absorbed by that part of the book.

That is true. I remember wanting to skip everything in the 60s and get to the 1740s. Same with Voyager.
Kaylee Winchester: Supernatural - Dean Smileroguem on December 5th, 2015 12:19 pm (UTC)
I usually wanted to skip anything that didn't relate to Claire and Jamie. I think now that I know all the characters better I might be more interested in their beginnings.
Jill aka Josireesanwar on December 11th, 2015 10:52 pm (UTC)
Probably. I think the first time around all you can care about is Jamie and Claire and then after several reads you realize their are other characters and maybe you could pay attention to them. LOL
Kaylee Winchesterroguem on December 12th, 2015 11:47 am (UTC)
True. But that's just a good excuse to read the books more than once. :)

Don't think I'll ever warm completely to John or William though.
Jill aka Josireesanwar on December 16th, 2015 01:35 am (UTC)
So true!

I don't know about William yet but not John. I don't hate him but never been a fan.
Kaylee Winchester: Outlander The Frasersroguem on December 19th, 2015 11:12 am (UTC)
I don't hate John either. It went from dislike to indifference as I was reading the books. He just bores me.
Jill aka Josireesanwar on December 23rd, 2015 11:34 pm (UTC)
Same here.
