25 Days of Christmas: Chestnut Praline

Don't judge me. But the Christmas around here is a very Starbucks Christmas. My family; cousins, Aunts & Uncles, friends, neighbors, essenitally everyone I know; look foward to the holiday drinks that come out at Christmas time from Starbucks.

This year Starbuck's has tried something new with the Chestnut Praline which I think is fantastic as a Frap but I hear is really good hot too. I'll have to try it.

See we will go caroling and then go to Starbucks. Or we all go see a small National Park town being lit up with Christmas lights, and then we go to Starbucks. The best time is when you go somewhere with my Uncle who LOVES Starbucks. He's willing to buy everyone a drink as long as he can make the stop.

So my questions to you are this:

1st, have you tried this amazing drink? If not go try it!
2nd, what is something your family (chosen or by blood) go out of there way for every year when gathering?

I tried it, but wasn't all that impressed. Glad you like it though. My fave is the peppermint mocha.

See then we are Starbucks opposites which is perfectly fine. I'll leave all the Peppermint Mochas for you and you can leave all the Chestnut Praline's for me. LOL

Deal. :)

I love the peppermint mocha too. Yummy!

My nieces love that one. I'm not a fan of peppermint. This is a bad time of the year to dislike peppermint too.

It really is. But at least it passes and the peppermint goes away. :)

That is true. LOL

I'm not a fan of peppermint.

Neither am I. I always judge toothpaste by how minty it is. If the mint taste is too strong, I give it to my husband.

LOL Usually that is me too. I tend to go for the toothpastes that have the least amount of shock value in flavor.

I haven't been to a Starbucks for many years. We don't have them here, but I suppose they must have locations in some of the cities in NH. The last time I visited a Starbucks was probably about 1985.

Jimmy Fallon was talking about the new Chestnut Praline Latte a couple of nights ago. He said it was delicious. He also said it sounded like the name of a stripper. LOL

There isn't anything my family goes "out of their way for" that I can recall. I haven't been in Ohio for Christmas since 1960. The only thing that's a "must have" in my life is turkey and all the accoutrements for Thanksgiving every year. Hubby insists on that and would love to have the same for Christmas, but I draw the line there. I'm not a fan of poultry.

Whoa! You are far more rural than I it seems. We have 3 Starbucks in the areas I travel. It is rather insane as there can't be enough people here to keep them afloat but then I know there are a lot of people who go more than once a day... which I'd never do.

LOL I love Jimmy Fallon.

All I can really eat is poultry (I can't eat beef and possibly red meat). Well maybe I can have pork but I'm not a huge fan of ham. We almost always have Turkey for Thanksgiving and Christmas and Easter but I'm usually okay with that. Though Christmas time sometimes we add lots of Armenian dishes which are beyond fantastic.

I do have to admit that should we fail to make a Turkey for these holidays my siblings would go into meltdown mode.

Oh! I didn't know you were Armenian. Is your mother Armenian and is she the one who makes the wonderful dishes for Christmas?
Jill aka Jo: Holiday: Ornamentsireesanwar on December 22nd, 2014 11:04 pm (UTC)
Yep. I'm a lot of things: Armenian, German, English, French, Dutch

My mom is half Armenian. I'm only a quarter but I really claim it because the heritage has been a big deal in my family and we've really passed on the stories and the recipes. Even people who marry into the family love it.

My mom used to make Armenian food all the time (she has all my great-grandmothers recipes) but as she gets older it is harder for her so she's passing it all on.

Usually my Great Aunt Vula (who is younger than my mom) brings things like Dolma (hot stuffed grape leaves not like anything in the stores) or Boreg (cheese in filo dough) to gatherings. One of the cousins will make Sarma (pretty much the cold stuffed grape leaves you find in the stores) and we make Cheoreg which is a bread that is more sweets than bread.... I some recipes here.

This year my cousins, sister and I are getting together on Friday to make a bunch of Armenian food for the big family Christmas which is on Sunday. It is a lot of work but it is so worth it. Plus all the work goes faster with 7-9 sets of hands working on everything.

That's quite an ancestry. I'm 1/2 Scottish, 1/4 Welsh and 1/4 English...not nearly as exotic as your heritage.

Maybe not to you but I think it is fantastic that you are Scottish! My Step-Grandmother was Scottish and I loved it. Wanted to be Scottish too. *sad face* LOL

I'm Scottish on my father's side. My maiden name was Davidson...see icon. You can't see much of it in the icon, but we have really pretty tartans, I think. I'm from the Tulloch branch in Dingwall, just below the Highlands.

Jill aka Josireesanwar on January 2nd, 2015 06:43 pm (UTC)
Very cool. My Uncle Bob (he's not biologically related) is Scottish. He came up to visit for Christmas and we were talking about how I should just claim his and my step grandmothers. LOL

She was a Ross. I don't know what his clan name is. I should ask.

I haven't tried it yet but plan to. Probably the frap version - I prefer those to hot drinks.

I can't think of anything personally ... We don't really have any food traditions, or anything within my own family circle that we always do. As a kid me and my parents always watched A Christmas Carol on Christmas Eve, but that's kind of gone away now since no one in my family (extended or otherwise) likes it, and we HAVE to go to my inlaws on Christmas Eve to celebrate ('cause they won't do it any other day).
Jill aka Jo: Holiday: Christmas Cookiessireesanwar on December 5th, 2014 06:59 pm (UTC)
I've heard the Frap is much better than the hot version anyway. I have yet to try the hot version but since it has mostly been in the 50s and 60s (10-16C) here it hasn't been cold enough to force me away from Fraps. There are very few hot drinks I like. When we get below freezing here I opt for Hot Chocolate because I'm just not a fan of hot coffee though occasionally a hot mocha is acceptable.

I'm sorry that has to be your tradition. You should just break out the movie and watch it whether your family loves it or not. Sometimes we just have to have personal traditions too. And A Christmas Carol is a fantastic story... I'm not a fan of A Christmas Story.
tracyj23: AoS - May colourful backgroundtracyj23 on December 7th, 2014 04:39 pm (UTC)
I can't imagine. Here it's always cold enough to want hot drinks but I still prefer the taste of fraps so I get those even when it's really cold.

I think I will this Christmas, though probably not on Christmas eve. Maybe Christmas day. Anyone who wants to watch can, and if no one does, then at least the dog will keep me company. :) Your'e right, everyone should get to enjoy their traditions. We enjoy watching the Grinch every year as a family, that's lots of fun.
Jill aka Jo: Holiday: Treesireesanwar on December 8th, 2014 09:08 pm (UTC)
I prefer Fraps too.

Yeah, California isn't really that cold most of the time.

We watch Elf. We love it. I like Grinch but I'm not a big fan. Last year we watched the newer A Christmas Carol which was pretty great.

Go for it! If they don't want to watch they'll do something else.
tracyj23: Coffee lovetracyj23 on December 9th, 2014 01:01 pm (UTC)
I'm not a fan of Elf, but I do enjoy watching The Wizard of Oz, which they show every year, and the Grinch. I've seen a few of the newer Christmas movies and I'm not that excited about them - I still love the original Christmas Carol in black and white. That's my thing. :)
Jill aka Josireesanwar on December 9th, 2014 07:53 pm (UTC)
Wizard of Oz at Christmas? That seems odd to me but then it is a good movie. I haven't seen it in years. I should look for it.

To each there own, right? It is just fun to break out the movies we love and get a watching.
tracyj23: Music is lovetracyj23 on December 11th, 2014 04:43 pm (UTC)
CBC alway shows The Wizard and The Sound of Music at Christmastime. They've become holiday favourites, along with the traditional holiday movies and musicals. I guess I've gotten used to them being Christmasy even though they really aren't in theme, because I used to always watch them every year as a child.

For sure! We plan to finish watching Heroes with the kids over the holidays (we began it in the summer), and hubby and I will be doing a BSG rewatch as well, along with our holiday favourites. I"m really looking forward to the holidays.
Jill aka Josireesanwar on December 13th, 2014 06:18 am (UTC)
I don't know when we watched Wizard of Oz but I do remember it being on every year.

Did you like Heroes?

I wanted to rewatch BSG but it isn't free on Amazon Prime (which I have temporarily).

I can imagine you are!
tracyj23: Holiday - red ornamentstracyj23 on December 13th, 2014 01:39 pm (UTC)
I did, until the last season. It got weird. Apparently they're doing another iteration of it next year sometimes so that's why we decided to watch it again to refresh our memories since I believe at least a few of the characters will continue into the next one.
Jill aka Josireesanwar on December 15th, 2014 08:40 pm (UTC)
Really. I didn't know that.

I didn't love the last season either.
