Beneditch Cumberbatch Ice Bucket Challenge

serenitysangel... I hope this makes you feel better. I think the last one with the white t-shirt should be your favorite!

That is true and it has been good for that. But I still find it extremely sad that as human beings we only really care about the plight of others when thinking of ourselves and the stupid things we can do to ourselves. I despair of humanity sometimes. It seems like we're doomed to just get dumber and dumber until we kill ourselves for fun.

Very true. For some I think the challenge really was more about getting attention for themselves, but if you can ignore them at least many doing it brought attention to it and by bring attention to it have raised money for ALS.

The struggle I've had is that to get a cure for ALS they experiment on animals. It makes it a difficult one for me. I understand wanting to save human lives I just find it difficult that they think experimenting on animals is the way to go when the actual success rate is negligable.

At least there was something positive to it all and it is helping the cause.

I didn't know that about animal experimentation. I would guess there are more than a few groups who use animals as test subjects. It's cruel but I guess nowadays you can't do like Dr. Jenner did in his quest to find the cure for smallpox and just inoculate his neighbour's kid (without permission no less) to see what would happen. (I know this story because I'm related to him - only "celebrity" I'm related to and I'm quite proud. :) )

I don't like animal testing. I just wonder sometimes how else they'd do it? Of course, I'm so far from scientifically inclined it isn't funny.

Tracy, I knew that about Dr. Jenner. There is a great program on called Mysteries at the Museum and they show you items from a museum and the history of it and Dr. Jenner was one.

I think Jenner also gave his family the vaccination too. Scary but again how would you try it?

Indeed and I've liked that I've seen many stars not only doing the challenge but have also made a point of saying they'll donate too.

Unfortunately too many who still do. LOL NO, you can't have that happening although that said (and I'm sure this makes me an awful human being) there are some truly despicable people in the world who should as punishment for their evil be subjected to being tested on rather than going to prison...

I totally agree. There are those who I think deserve worse than prison - prison being a pretty comfy place all in all - especially those who abuse others and deprive them of basic rights like food and living conditions. A family near here was recently busted for that; sexually abusing their daughters, making porn with them, and depriving them of reasonable living conditions and food. Those parents should be made to live in the same conditions they put their children through and worse in my opinion. Prison and the chance of parole, is too good for them. Testing diseases and vaccines on them would be totally okay in my opinion!

Absolutely and that way they can give back something good to humanity, which they wouldn't do if they're sat in prison not contributing anything.

Too true.
