Outlander Free Preview Premiere

Honestly, I saw the differences from the book and somethings (who knows about the blood over the doors) seemed like unnecessary changes but honestly I don't care that much because it was such a great journey.

As a huge fan of the books, I know what is happening as I watch and even what is coming next. Before watching the show I kept thinking that no matter what we fans of the book see in the show, we will always know what is coming. There is no surprise for us. And yet the entire time I watched the free preview of Sassenach (episode one) I wondered what was coming next.

Honestly, from what I saw in this first episode both the acting and the story telling seem wonderful to me. I may be a little biased but I did fear what my favorite book would look like on screen.

Tobias Menzies was great and so believable as both Frank and Black Jack Randall that I found myself mesmerized by him. He's going to be one of the more fantastic aspects of the show but then I knew he was a great actor.

The other character and actor I loved was Graham McTavish as Dougal MacKenzie. I loved the moments he backs up Claire's commanding nurse ways and when he's a nonsense leader to the band of highlanders he's traveling with. You can just see in his face that he's puzzled by Claire and trying to figure out who and what she is.

I'd listened to a podcast that talked about Caitrionia Balfe's performance as though they weren't sure about her ability to carry it off but I'm convinced she can. She seems to switch gears much like Claire without issue. There were a couple moments I wasn't entirely sure about specifically Jamie finding her again after the fight with the English but knowing the story these moments are bound to happen.

Sam Heughan did a wonderful job being Jamie. When Claire sets his arm, his reaction just seems so real. And the first time he calls her Sassenach made me more happy than swoonish... is that even a word? Oh well. I loved the show and I can't wait the next two weeks to watch the second episode.

Try it.

I've been watching like mad for an announcement that Starz will give us a second season. Can't imagine that they won't. I've been keeping an eye out for the viewer numbers for Saturday night's premiere, too, but nothing has been said yet.

I hope the numbers are great but I also hope that if they aren't wonderful they take into account people may have already watched it... but in that case I hope episode 2 does amazing.

I just hope the show does amazing. I want it to be a hit and for it to go on and on and on and on... till the end. *fingers crossed*

True, a lot of people have seen the first episode on line and may not have bothered with watching it on TV so episode 2 may have better viewer numbers. I re-read the chapters in the book through the first episode and today read to where I suspect they will end episode 2...either before or after The Gathering is my guess. What do you think?
Jill aka Josireesanwar on August 14th, 2014 12:27 am (UTC)
Probably. That makes sense. From what I've seen they are going through at least Hall.

I think episode 2 will take us through The Gathering because the trailer shows Claire remorseful for getting Jamie involved. That would be agood place to end, or perhaps go a bit father and have Claire, Jamie and Dougal setting out to collect the rents.

Only three more days....

You know I don't even want to speculate... I just want to watch it already... why isn't a week like two days????

You would think waiting to see it since I discovered Outlander in 2003 would make me feel like a week is nothing but it doesn't... too long!

Yeah so I'm going Outlander crazy.

Yes! I had several announcements about it in my mail today. I wonder why Starz (or Sony?) cut season two from 16 episodes to 13. I read Dragonfly... so long ago that I can't remember if less happens in that book than in Outlander. If that's the case, it would account for fewer episodes. I'll definitely re-read it after the Outlander madness dies down.

Ah so you are commenting about it here. Okay so it isn't official, I believe, about the 13 episodes. They are only green-lighting that many which can be typical with an early pick up. It is possible with further success the size of the season will change.

When I came on line this afternoon, about every third email was an announcement from one or another of the entertainment sites I follow. I didn't do an entry about it because I figured you would.

I chuckled to myself when I remembered Diana jokingly saying George R. R. Martin remarked, "What? I only got 13!" when she told him Outlander was getting 16 episodes. I hope season two does get 16 as well, but I'll have to reread Dragonfly; I can't remember a lot that happened in the second book.

A lot seems to happen. I would have thought they'd do 16 episodes again but we'll see when we actually get to that point.

I haven't read the books yet so don't know either. But maybe it is because it's shorter or they want to cut costs. Who knows what networks are thinking sometimes lol

I think what was actually said was a "minimum of 13 episodes" so hopefully they'll decide they can't tell the whole story of Dragonfly in Amber in only 13 and will add more episodes.

That is my hope too.
