Book Description:
Eden Black walks among humans, protecting them from the murderous evil of other-worlders who abduct and enslave. And though she appears to be human herself, Eden is an alien, a Raka, distinguished by her golden hair and skin, and gifted with the ominous ability to kill without remorse -- and with total accuracy. That is, until the fateful night she has one shot to eliminate her target, a human slaver -- and misses.

"Failure" is not in Eden's vocabulary. Neither is "partner" -- but that's what she is forcibly assigned after recovering from her disastrous mission. A sexy, steely-nerved human agent, Lucius Adaire enjoys nothing more than sparking the fury -- and rousing the desire -- of the fiery female assassin too proud to admit defeat. Locked in an assignment they cannot afford to lose, Lucius and Eden find themselves bound in two high-stakes, heart-pounding games: the sensual web of kill or be killed, and the erotic dance of seduction.

What did you think of the book? (Why this book?, New Author? Read more by author? Keeping? Thoughts on Hero? Heroine?)
Okay wow. I'm very glad I gave this series a second book to impress me because not only was Eden's story far better than Mia's but the characters felt more real and consuming. I could barely put this book down! From the beginning you clearly see that Eden is a force to be reckoned with. She's tough, fierce and smart. But what becomes deliciously apparent after meeting Lucius is that she quirky and fun too. The banter between this two is so natural and well written it is like Showalter was just relaying what she heard coming from these characters.

Lucius is something of a mystery, though as he opens up and reveals his feeling for Eden through actions, we can see his depth of caring. Then there are surprise moments when he reveals more about himself to Eden. I didn't love that some much about him rushed out and a rather strange moment but I did like that it prepared us for the eventual outcome of the story.

Eden and Lucius heat up the pages with their sexual tension and all the while there is an actual case and intrigue going on aroudn them. Ever location seemed necessary to the story and even character had it's part. The only character I took issue with was Devyn because it seemed a little too easy for Eden to overcome him and what he wanted.

But one major point in Eden's favor is her compassion. Not only does she care about the woman being abducted in the case she's working but when she encounters an abused dog during her job she let's the owner know it isn't tolerated and takes this sweet animal home to be pampered.

Really good and I'm very much hoping the rest of the series is just a good.
