Ron Moore adapting Outlander for TV?
Sorry there has been a lack of activity here but life has been busy and well there just hasn't been a lot of Outlander news. That is changing. According to Syfy's site Ron Moore is adapting the Outlander novel for a Cable series. Apparently Sony has just closed a deal with Diana Gabaldon for the rights to Outlander. Diana confirms this on her Facebook page. If you want to read more about this you should check out this LINK.

How are you feeling about this news?

I'm actually hoping something will come of this because even if it isn't as great as we want it puts Outlander out there and makes it possible for a true to the books adaptation. Of course, while I loved Ron Moore's work with Battlestar Galactica, I don't know how I feel about him being the writer behind this project. It could be great and then it could be Caprica. Of course, Moore is a big name giving us fans who want to see Outlander on screen more hope.

Mixed feelings. While I'd love to see Outlander in live-action, I'm afraid they'll stray and detract too far from the books and they will never satisfy actors to the mental character images of the majority of readers. My own mental image of Jamie is nothing like DG's other than the red hair and kilt.

As far as writing/adapting by this Ron Moore dude...I can't judge because I haven't seen any of his stuff outside of M:I2 and Star Trek stuff...and it's been too long since I've seen any of that.

As it is, I have mixed feelings about the OL graphic novel! lol

It is odd to me that from DG's description I have a very clear image of Jamie. I do worry about this with actors but as it is nearly impossible to find an exact duplicate of people I'm willing to concede that if major points are met then I'm good.

I do hope they don't stray from the story too. I really think that it could be great especially for a show.

Ron Moore can be quite good but I fear he'll think it needs something we won't want to see as a fan. But then he loves the emotionally poignant moments which Outlander has in spades.

My feeling is that if it doesn't succeed then it is in the world of Hollywood and they could redo it or there will be a fan who redoes it and stays true to the story...

I love all forms of Outlander. I can't help myself.

Hmm. I'd be wary. I've never read the series but I know Ron Moore and while his reimagined BSG was great it was really nothing like the original. Caprica was well, interesting. That's all I can say.

Yes, I do fear that but Outlander does have all the aspects he loves so it could be a match made in heaven or... he'll screw it up. If he was smart he'd figure out that Outlander fans are not going to stand for him messing with the characters but who said anyone in Hollywood was smart.

I hope it is good for your sake and that of the other fans.
