Book Description:
Live fast, fight hard and if you have to die then take as many of your enemies with you as you can. That is the Amazon credo and it was one Samia lived and died by. Now in contemporary New Orleans, the immortal Amazon warrior is about to learn that there’s a worse evil coming to slaughter mankind than she’s ever faced before.

Shape-shifter Dev Peltier has stood guard at the front of Sanctuary for almost two hundred years and in that time, he’s seen it all. Or so he thought. Now their enemies have discovered a new source of power- one that makes a mockery of anything faced to date.

The war is on and Dev and Sam are guarding ground zero. But in order to win, they will have to break the most cardinal of all rules and pray it doesn’t unravel the universe as we know it.

What did you think of the book? (Why this book?, New Author? Read more by author? Keeping? Thoughts on Hero? Heroine?)
I have fallen behind in the reading of this series. Many of the books are great but I feel over the years that Kenyon has kind of gotten into a rut she can't find her way out of. There seems to be a continual format to all her books, which wouldn't necessarily be bad, if the scenarios didn't seems so mundane to the series. Honestly, the continued reading of this series has more to do with the characters than anything else.

We've known the Peltier Bear clan for quite some time. As long as Sanctuary was referenced in these stories we've known about the Peltiers and more than likely we knew Dev. The thing is that while Kenyon has developed a lot of characters in the overall arch of the story, I wouldn't say she really developed many of the Peltier's besides Aimee and Maman Lo.

With this book came a few more details about the Peltier's which is good. We get to know that Remi was in love with Quinn's mate before they were mated and had hoped to mate her himself but Quinn slept with her not knowing about Remi's feelings and they were mated. Very sad, indeed, which leads me to hope for a Remi story.

As for Dev, I did enjoy his quick wit and he's good natured personality. It was sad to get to know a little more about what drives him. It was also very sad that Nicolette (Maman Lo) didn't absolve him of his guilt before she died. Still I do think some of the other character's past were worse, though I do believe in this story Sam's life was supposed to be the one filled with hardship as she is the Dark-Hunter of our tale.

Sam's powers are awful but doesn't it just figure that the exception to it all is Dev. We do learn a lot about Sam's previous life as an Amazon. Now, as a Dark-Hunter she's sold her soul to Artemis. Ash (or Acheron) used to pay an very high price to retrieve mated souls but after his book that stopped. So how can Sam get her soul back and does she even want to stop being a Dark-Hunter? That is the real question and one that is answered with a rather large surprise. And then, of course, in walks Savitar who I really want to have a book as I have always kind of liked him. We'll see.

Overall, I'd say the book wasn't wonderful but as a fan of the series it was worth the read if only to keep going.

Something you should know about the series. The Dark-Hunter Series is a compilation of the Dream-Hunter, Were-Hunter, and Hellchaser Series. The Chronicles of Nick are books that are about Nick Gautier who we meet in the second book of the series. If you've read all the other Dark-Hunter books you will know that Nick's life took a turn for the worst so the Chronicles of Nick Series is basically a retelling only with Nick himself changing his life, so it's actually very different. But the below list is the reading order of the books.
