Web Designers
Okay I know some of you out there are web designers and participate in RPG stuff. I was wondering if there is a way for me to make it possible for some RGPers I know to make their own character profiles on my website. Like install a database... or if there is some place on the net already that you can sign up for and do that. I'm not all that sure we would need a board or anything as we are already posting somewhere but these people want to be able to have profiles you can see on the site for the rpg.

Anyone?

My domain is on someone else's server but maybe she'd be willing to host it or I could put it someplace else? I don't know. I just want them to be able to make their own characters instead of me putting them in all the time.

Yeah cool. Okay what I don't get is why the header image has to be that big!

I'm a little confused by this but I like the idea... the only problem is that anyone can change profile pages.

It is basically Everyone can edit, Only Members, or Invited people but I think that implies that if Member A makes a character then Member B can edit it. Confusing.

Also I'm not sure if there is a way for me to set up a template of what character pages should look like.

Maybe this is a bad idea.

I don't think it will work for me mostly because my host doesn't like it.

Scylla's school also wanted a CMS thingy, so I installed Wordpress for them. It's a bit over the top, since they won't really use the actual blog function, but at least they'll be able to update stuff without having to know much html code.

Wetpaint could work out well, as long as you are aware it has some limitations when it comes to wiki(pedia) code. We got to try Wetpaint for a uni course, and it wasn't as Wikipedia-esque as I had wanted, but then again you are not wanting to use it for a wiki thingy either.

A wiki thing. Does that mean like RPGers can go in and add their own character profiles without anyone else being able to mess with them or me doing it?

I'm looking at the Wetpaint like you said and while I'm not all that up on stuff so I don't know what I'm looking at... I'll review it and see if I can figure it out. It looks like you don't have to put it on your server but I could be wrong... because ultimately that would probably be best since I don't know how Jacs would feel about me taking up more space that I'm already not paying for.

Well, what I meant was that you won't really go making entries similar to leeengthy Wikipedia articles with their special formatting now will you? :) It sounds to me to be more overall profiles, that hopefully should be able to work out with the wiki and html encoding that one can work with in Wetpaint.

And yepp, the idea is that once people have registered and logged in they should be able to edit stuff, as long as one has set the appropriate permissions etc. It was some time ago I tried Wetpaint, but iirc that was the MO. One way to find out however!

Jacs will need to help you set things up though, unless she has a better idea for what would work.

I've been messing about with Wetpaint and while I like it the width of it is driving me made. I'm going to perfect what I want and see because it is a great way to let my RPers make their own profiles!

I'm going to ask Jacs but I thought she and I talked about this once. That could have been something else. I don't remember.
