I can't decide...
I made graffitigraphicfor all my icons, headers, banners, and whatever other graphics I come up with. My dilemma is whether or not I should leave this group for myself or open it up to other posters? Maybe not all posters, but just recruit a few of you talented people. What do you all think?

As you know I have zero talent for graphics so any I can pick up anywhere are great. But it's your community - you have to decide if you want others posting or just having us snag and thank you. :)

I certainly wouldn't have a problem looking at anything anyone else would make and post here. :D

Hmm... surprisingly that did help a bit even if you left it up to me. *grin*

I still have to think about it but I'm thinking of inviting some artists to join the posting.

Well, it all depends on why you want to do recruit more people. To simply cover more fandoms/themes? Have challenges between friends on a certain fandom/theme? To be inspiring to each other etc? What you could do is open up a new-new community for this bigger coverage.

As there's some prettty decent icon & other graphics communities out there. Yet I can't remember if I did find one I liked-liked so far, mostly due to not so developed memories/tags/past posts listings or something else that doesn't help getting an overview of past postings. But it is of course easier to manage one oneself, not to mention a lot more fun covering many many areas :)

That is why I was thinking of it... plus I've been a little on the idle side of things and there are so many other there who are not.

I'm all about organizing. Love to organize. So give me input on tags, past post listings, and memories. How exactly would you do memories for graphics? Honestly, I'm curious. I mostly use tags because they are very easy to rely on but I'd be happy to learn all about the other things.

Ponderations: Part 1
Inspirational Themes or Challenges and so..
So you'd have themes/contests and what not in such a community too? I suppose one month for a particular theme would be a good inspiration, and also make people feel less stressed out, since irl life can be a pain like that. And in a parallel manner there could be theme-themes as well as movie / (ep) series themes too. Or would you have more have a challenge where every icon/graphics maker try to steer things after a certain theme every now and then?

I just saw the below commmunity that I take up as an example for memories, has some sort of "nominate your favourite icon of the past month" thing going. I assume this is someone else's icon that goes for that, and then that people vote for that.

Running votes or so, could also have some sort of link on the main page of the community, as a good reminder, or of course be in the layout menu somehow when applicable.

Tags and Memories..
Tags certainly are smooth, all kinds of icons or other graphics in similar style a click away. I think your tagging structure is very good, in fact, I plan to copy it ;)Hmm, while it is nice to have a list of tags in the community layout, I think that list might get waaay way longer than the most recent posts that is shown.) So memories is a good complement especially due to this imo) Naturally, making sure people tag their posts from the start, is even better! So some sort of guidelines and what kind of abbreviations to use help post would probably help there too.

But indeed, it's also nice to combine it somehow with the memories function. 'cause some do take their time to use that as well.

Hmm, memories could perhaps be more overall first, like is the set of icons/graphics based on a theme/movie/series or misc. I see in a plain movies icon community like 100x100movies they simply added the name for the movie to memories, as anyone make icons/graphics for that. But it's a veeeery long list however.

Yet, a master list (ie a post) with Themes A to Z, Movies A to Z, Series A to Z, Misc A to Z, might be a good complement to that? As a memories listing is nice to just browse through for random stuff that one gets curious, as it's not divided up after theme/movies/series/misc, but more of an alphabetical listing. This A to Z listing could be styled in a better way if it's in a post-post than if being in a memories post? Then again one could have subdirs in the memories listing as well, just that it could get a bit too much clicking then? Also, any such A to Z list, you could screen comments for, and then delete comments with whatever it is on the list that might be wrong with it once you have updated the listing, and not have to end up with a zillion comments pages for something that just be a summary post and where comments really don't add anything once whatever reason that comment was added has been seen to.

So I'd say it's a good idea from the beginning to reserve a bunch of first posts at the community for these master list posts, request post, FAQ post, and hmm, what else might need covering? I suppose there could be a general FAQ, as well as a "How to format your posts in this community" FAQ post for those that don't want to wade through questions like "how do I credit?" or "can I become an affiliate?". Oh, I suppose all members could help make a huuuge listing of resources that they all use.. then again, there might be dedicated communities for that alone in fact?

Re: Ponderations: Part 1
I haven't thought of doing the theme of the month or anything like that because I can see that making my life really busy and I only ever get on when I'm a work.

I think I'll go through the posts and put them into memories.

I've already done the FAQ, request, and what not posts a long time ago. I don't know about master lists because they sound pretty much like tags and while I have OCD tendencies even that screams "I need help" or "Monk". lol

Also, I know the tags list is long but I think it will do for now. I can always change things up later. Also tags are created by me. Sounds harsh but then I don't have weird tags popping up and I think general tags are better.

So many people get into naming characters from shows. I figure the name of the show is enough and the

[01] character from the show

is good enough.

Ponderations: Part 2
New vs Old Post Stuff & Formatting of Posts
You would accept old icons/graphics, ie already posted/made some time ago?

The smoothest thing is of course for the poster to post a couple of teasers, and then link to their own journal/community for full post there. This could be done in a generic style too, to help cut make things cleancut.

[teasericon #2] [teasericon #2] [teasericon #2]
< a href = " http://community.livejournal.com/somewhere/somepost1234.html" > More here < / a> @ < lj comm = " somewhere " >

Another thing to ponder, is if one person has maaany posts for a certain theme/movie/series/misc, then how to structure that?
If having a master post listing, it'd be slightly smoother to list that by user than for a memory thing? As the memories thing lists it by alphabetical order and then chronological?

Oh and, what do you think is a good overview, if there's lots of different themes/movies/shows/misc covered in one post?
I guess this below style that I've seen around does work well. Where number within [ ] show how many icons or so of the following theme/movie/series/misc. Usually this is listed above the teaser icons, yes?

[11] Movie A
[20] Series B
[05] Theme C
[19] Misc D

And, should there be a requests section, then requests preferably need an own dedicated post, preferably also with a similar unscreen/edit of actual post thing going to avoid a zillion of comments pages.

Aaand, a nifty layout and design for the community would rock, as well as a catchy name to cover it all that includes stuff that isn't just icons and so.

Ahem yeah, I don't have OCD or anything, nonooo ;)

Re: Ponderations: Part 2
Yes, old stuff is welcome cause it is new at the community.

Definately. My layout is always

[01] whatever
[05] whatever

Icon Icon Icon

Hey someone like me with OCD tendencies can make a journal great!

Sometimes I add a downsized version of a banner under the links of instead of the links. That always works too.

Re: Ponderations: Part 2
hehe, yeah OCD people united can make impressive things :D

Ah, I see now you're indeed going to "upgrade" your art community, that is good, 'cause the name you picked for it really is a great one! Would be hard coming up with an equally good one *grins*

Re: Ponderations: Part 2
Thanks. I liked the title. Took me forever to come up with something different and creative.
