I had the time (miracle) to see three movies recently which I enjoyed for different reasons. Here they are and what I thought of them.
Being part Armenian and knowing my great-grandparents story of fleeing for their lives, this movies was especially important for me to see. I really enjoyed it. There was an aspect of the love story I didn't enjoy but overall it was well done and both Oscar Isaac and Christian Bale were great in the movie. Something I wish they had addressed in the movie though I don't kno how they would have was that this didn't just happen in Turkey. They show it happening in the Ottoman Empire but the Ottoman's also invaded surrounding areas. There was a brief mention of the defense of Van, Armenia which my family members caught because of our families history.
As for the story of the love triangle. I never appreciate infidelity of any kind but I did think the overall story of love, loss, and perseverance was well done.
I promise I'm not biased in the least by the fact that Chris Evans (my movie boyfriend) is in this movie. It was just really good. I really enjoyed Mckenna Grace's performance as Mary. She is a great little actress and Chris was wonderful as her uncle looking to do the best thing for her. This movie really got to me even if some of it was predictable. But I have to tell you Fred the cat really stole it for me on multiple occasions.
Is this movie something that will blow your mind? Probably not but it does tug at the heart strings and I really enjoyed it.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
When I saw Vol. 1 I remember leaving the theatre knowing that I would own the movie and the soundtrack. In fact, I went across the parking lot to Walmart and bought the soundtrack that very day because it was absolutely wonderful. This movie didn't feel that way for me. Yes, it was enjoyable. Yes, I laughed quite a bit throughout the movie but overall the jokes were constant and not always necessary and usually over the top. The music wasn't as memorable for me this time and the overall story would have been about 30 minutes worth of time if they hadn't tossed in the running jokes like that had. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed it and may just own it at some point but it isn't a must have for me and I doubt I'd want to watch it again anytime soon.
Most of the Marvel movies have improved with sequels, for me, but this just isn't he case with Guardians.
